Welsh Festival of the Horse: 4 & 5 September 2010,
Margam Park, South Wales

This family orientated event will offer an opportunity to show-case the wide variety of equestrian activities and skills in Wales to a broader audience. There will be demonstrations, displays, stalls, amazing stunt riding and we will also be including our canine friends who will also be showing off their skills. The last Festival in 2006 was hugely popular with the public and 2010 will offer another great opportunity to promote equestrian activities.

The organizers would be interested to hear from anyone who would like to participate, organise or sponsor an event or activity Information on all the activities will be included in a booklet and publicity initiatives, which will be widely distributed later this year,

Welsh Festival of the Horse - Margam Park 2006

The Welsh Festival of the Horse highlighted the diversity of the Welsh equine sector, boosting local, regional, and national interest in all equestrian activities and offered everyone involved within the equine world the opportunity to profile their activities to a wider audience.

The Festival was not a competition based event, as with other ‘Horse Shows’, it was quite the reverse. It was a major family orientated gala celebration event held at Margam Park, Port Talbot during the Easter weekend 16 & 17 April 2006. It was an opportunity for the various disciplines to demonstrate their particular skills and activities. An awareness-raising event. An opportunity to educate, to entertain, to see what is available, to ‘come and try’ and to make horse-riding activities attractive – an introductory card.It was a huge success, attracting over 10,000 people over two days. The intention was to expand the ‘audience’ base, to show parents, their children and the population in general what enjoyment there is, where it can be found, how affordable it can be, and the opportunities available within the horse world - it did exactly that.

Harness Racing at Ely Racecourse - June 2005

Harness Racing returned to Cardiff’s Ely Racecourse after a long absence on Wednesday 8 June 2005. Top quality horses and competitors converged on the once famous home of the Welsh Grand National for a special meeting organised by the Welsh Equine Council and the Wales and West Harness Racing Association. The event at Ely was a free one evening only event which was staged to promote the Welsh Equine Council’s first “Welsh Festival of the Horse”  held the following Easter at Margam Park. The British Harness Racing Club, the governing body of UK racing gave special permission for the race event at Ely. Regional steward Stella Havard said “Wales and West are members of the Welsh Equine Council, along with forty other organisations, and the opportunity to bring our sport to the capital city was not to be ignored”.
